Distal Biceps and Triceps Injuries
Background Rupture of the distal biceps and triceps tendons are relatively uncommon injuries typically occurring in middle-aged males as a result of eccentric loading of the tendon. Methods A literature search was performed and the authors' personal experiences reported. Results This review discusses the diagnosis, indications and guidelines for management of these injuries and provides a d...
متن کاملBiceps tendon and triceps tendon injuries.
Injuries to the biceps and triceps tendons about the elbow are relatively infrequent. Typically, they are traumatic events that occur as a result of a forceful eccentric contraction. Early recognition of these injuries and prompt intervention are the cornerstones to a successful outcome. Acute anatomic repair of complete injuries offers predictably good results. Conservative management, on the ...
متن کاملVoluntary activation of biceps-to-triceps and deltoid-to-triceps transfers in quadriplegia
The biceps or the posterior deltoid can be transferred to improve elbow extension function for many individuals with C5 or C6 quadriplegia. Maximum strength after elbow reconstruction is variable; the patient's ability to voluntarily activate the transferred muscle to extend the elbow may contribute to the variability. We compared voluntary activation during maximum isometric elbow extension fo...
متن کاملTriceps to biceps transfer for established brachial plexus palsy.
We have reviewed seven patients who had triceps transfer after an old brachial plexus injury. All patients had a useful functional improvement with a good range of powerful elbow flexion; five patients could manage to bring their hand to their mouth. The basis of patient selection and the relative advantages of triceps transfer are discussed.
متن کاملEffects of Tire Pressure on Biceps Brachii and Triceps Brachii Activity When Operating a Manual Wheelchair
PURPOSE: This study was measured the differences in the flexor and extensor muscle activities of the elbow joints based on the tire pressure of wheelchairs during propulsion, investigating the optimal tire pressure for improving occupants’ propulsion and avoiding related injury. METHODS: Ten healthy volunteers (10 men aged 23.1 ± 1.9 years, weight: 67.9 ± 3.4 kg, height: 175.1 ± 2.7 cm) took pa...
